Landscape photography is a popular choice for many people who want something unique to display in their homes or businesses. To have a successful Landscape Photographer business, getting your work in front of the right customers is the most important step. Following these simple tips will help you get your work notices so that you can grow your business.

  1. Be mindful of the framing of your subject.  What this means will vary by subject.  For instance, if you are taking a picture of one person, getting a close shot where the subject fills the frame is your best bet, since details are important.  On the other hand, a landscape shot might benefit from being further away, as you get the entire scene this way.
  2. Play with the aperture settings. Take a number of photos of the same subject with different settings to see how it affects the look of the final photo. Bigger f-stops allow you to get an entire landscape in focus, while a smaller f-stop will draw attention only to the center of your frame.
  3. Use the right lens for the job. If you are photographing a landscape, for example, you need a wide-angle lens that will let you capture as much of the scene as possible, while sporting events generally require a telephoto lens that let you capture faraway players in high detail. Knowing what lens to choose will make it much easier to produce quality photos.
  4. When you are taking landscape photos, consider the sky.  If the sky is rather bland and boring, do not let it dominate the photo.  If the sky is lit up with wonderful colors (especially during sunrise, sunset or a storm) it is okay to let the sky dominate the photo.
  5. Even if you are taking a landscape photo, make sure your shot has a focal point. Shots without a focal point can look rather empty and dull.  Possible focal points for a nature landscape photo include big trees, waterfalls, and distant mountains.  Another trick is to use something that stands out as your focal point, such as a patch of different colored flowers.
  6. If you're doing a landscape shot, try and capture some movement in the shot. Whether it's the wind blowing the trees or a wave crashing against the shore, capturing this movement can add an extra layer of depth to the photograph. If you're going to try and capture movement, make sure you've got the shutter speed set correctly.
